Advantages

  • Porcelain is less likely to alter the taste of your coffee.
  • Can come with a lid that prevents spillage.
    • Can be useful if babies/clumsy people are around who could get burnt
  • Porcelain is microwave and dishwasher safe.

Disadvantages

  • The mug can become very hot to handle and hard to drink if there is no handle or outer insulating surround.
  • Silicon lids can alter the taste.
    • You may prefer to take the lid off when you drink and just use the lid for transportation duties.
  • Silicon lid may have an odor (may go away after use)
  • Silicon lids can leak.
  • Porcelain mugs are fairly fragile and are susceptible to cracking.
  • May not keep your coffee hot very long, so not good for people who take a long time to finish their coffee.
    • a porcelain inner wall in a double wall mug may draw heat from the coffee.

DCI "I am not a paper cup" Porcelain Travel Mug

The DCI "I am not a paper cup" porcelain travel mug seems quite popular and holds 12 oz. There are quite a few complaints on Amazon about the lid leaking, so you might want to be careful with this one.

Sagaform Double Walled Porcelain Mug

This Sagaform porcelain double wall mug has 18 reviews at time of writing with very good feedback. It comes in a number of designs including plain white.

It looks like a 12 oz mug, but due to the double wall, it only holds 8.5 ounces. This may be too small for some coffee drinkers. Perhaps well suited to espresso drinkers.
